Manila weather is characterized by the low fluctuation in temperatures between seasons. Lying entirely within the tropics and thanks to its proximity to the equator the temperatures that dominate Manila weather patterns only rarely fall bellow 20°C or rise higher than 38°C. The city’s high humidity levels however, make weather in Manila appear to be warmer than it actually is.
To better come to terms with the peculiarities of Manila weather – or to be more precise, the Manila Metro - we need to divide the city into two uniquely different areas. Manila weather is characteristically wet and dry, with considerably less rainfall than Quezon City, whose weather patterns are closer to the tropical monsoon type.
Although temperatures drop slightly between November and February, weather in Manila retains a hot, humid interface for the most part of the year. The time between June and October are considered to be the rainy season (precipitation however, remains a possibility at any given time of the year), although in actual fact the wet season is rather lengthy, covering the time between May through December. In contrast, the dry season is rather short, covering only the months between January and April.
May is usually the hottest month of the year, with temperatures hovering around the 28ºC mark. Temperatures reach their absolute lowest during January – the coolest month of the year – but still manage to reach a rather warm average of 25.5ºC. On the downside, because of the city’s location, Manila weather can often been intercepted by typhoons that tend to make their presence felt between May and November.
